Transformation is indeed possible,” I thought after seeing pictures of women doing livelihood projects together. Ate Deb Meyer, one of my spiritual mentors, told me and a few other UP Diliman Navigators students that these are women in transition from the streets and bars to a new life in Christ. It seemed an obscure but worthwhile endeavor to me at that time. I was encouraged by the hand of God in the women’s lives although I did not know exactly how I could take part in its movement. I prayed about it. This was my first encounter with the ministry of Samaritana.

Responding to God’s calling to become a full-time missionary staff at Samaritana was not an easy decision for me.  I was working then in a secular job and felt content with my regular salary.  This began to change when I started to volunteer in 1992 by visiting 5 streetwomen in a squatter area for Bible study.  Having developed friendships with them, the Lord placed a strong burden and compassion in my heart.  In my quiet moments with the Lord, I felt His invitation to serve Him full-time in this ministry but I tried to run and ignore His words. There were uncertainties and difficult questions for me to face.
